I learned the importance of making and achieving goals when I started running. To train my body to start running distances I would do walk/runs. I would walk for a time and then choose a point to run at, for example a tree or light post. Each time I went out for my walk/run, I would run to a little more. Pretty soon I was running the entire time, no walking involved. I ran my first half marathon with my daughter by sticking with my running goals. I learned that by making and keeping small goals I could achieve great things. I continue to make running goals to keep myself motivated. Now, I have applied goal making to my daily life.
With a goal in mind we tend to become more motivated. I try to continue to have a goal for each area of my life to strive for constant improvement. Below are some tips on how to make and achieve goals.
Write down your goals:
Write down your goals and it will keep you accountable. You will see your goal in print and you can check it off as you achieve it. Also, it is a place to take notes and write down what helped you in achieving your goal.
Choose achievable goals:
Be realistic and start small. You want to take small steps towards the bigger picture. Each goal you achieve will give you confidence, that is why it is best to start small and set a goal for something you can actually achieve in a shorter amount of time. As you achieve each small goal, set the next goal, step by step.
Involve your loved ones:
Let your family know what goals you are working on in your life. You may have family members join you in achieving the goal. Family is a great support system and your loved ones will hold you accountable. They are quick to remind you of your goal too, if you should slack off one day.
